Cox highlighted the complex character of accessibility in AI, challenging the binary perception of the idea. He noted the burgeoning community of transparent systems from various sources, including tech giants, universities, and nation-states.
However, he expressed concerns about the quality of openness in many Large Language Models, pointing out that a number of them deliver little more than a "bag of numbers" devoid of openness in their creation techniques.
